While Chair of Governors at Oughtibridge Primary School, and having overseen a significant expansion programme and rapid increase in educational outcomes, resulting in the school consistently being in the top 100 in England, David saw an opportunity to create a Multi-Academy Trust with other local schools. Peak Edge is now recognised as a leading MAT in England and has grown to 10 schools. It has a unique vision and values approach which delivers outstanding education.

SHEFFIELD UTC MULTI-ACADEMY TRUST

David is a Trustee of the Sheffield UTC MAT representing the technology sector. University Technical Colleges are an innovative provider of vocationally focussed education for school years 9 through to 13. Engineering, technology, health and sports programmes are designed in partnership with industry for students looking for more practical and ‘hands on’ teaching, preparing them more effectively for work in their chosen careers. Bringing significant education governance experience and expertise he also supports the board and executive to ensure the UTCs are effective as possible.

David sits as a member of The University of Sheffield Industrial Advisory Board for the School of Computer Science, within the Faculty of Engineering.

David graduated with a degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering from the University and enjoys being able to contribute to enhance the curriculum and engagement with industry while meeting with and supporting current students.

NATIONAL LEADER OF GOVERNANCE

Independent Governor Support Service

David was designated as a ‘National Leader of Governance’ by the Department of Education in 2016 due to his governance leadership at Oughtibridge Primary School and then in founding Peak Edge.

David now works as a consultant across Suffolk, Essex and Norfolk as a member of the Independent Governor Support Service.

£24m Stocksbridge Town Deal Board

Stocksbridge Town Deal Board

David was a member of the Stocksbridge Town Deal board from December 2019 until August 2024 championing education and commerce.

David assisted in the creation of the original Town Deal Bid which was successful in securing £24.1m from the UK Government for regeneration projects that would be delivered by local residents.

Through David’s visionary leadership, funding and support from central Government was secured to reboot the local 6th Form for post-16 education, along with the regeneration of the town library into a community hub containing adult education and business spaces, space for pop-up banking and other services, as well as a cafe and state-of-the-art library.
